I was born with a birth defect called a ventricular septal defect (VSD: a hole in my heart, right up against the aortic valve). Blood rushes through this hole with every beat. An echocardiogram picks this up; it sounds just like a bird chirping.

Despite its challenges, my heart beats for me every day. It may flutter or skip a few beats; some days it struggles, but it never gives up. It is a Mighty Heart! And, I love it, defect and all.
